We are the "AGE Computer Lab." Since January 1997, our mission has been to connect the wisdom of seniors with the wonders of technology and the internet. We provide, at minimal cost, computer literacy to any active adult with an interest in learning. We offer classes to help grow knowledge for both fun and practical uses, including computer applications and digital photography. And, we try to do it with humor and camaraderie.
Our state of the art lab, dedicated instructors, helpful coaches, and materials for home reference set us apart from other computer learning centers.
Classes are organized by skill levels and subjects, and are oriented to the interests of active adults. Learning is fun when it is paced and considerate of the needs of the students. Unlike college classes, we have coaches ready to help - as many as one for every two students.
The computer atmosphere at our lab is fun, relaxed, and stress free while learning and exploring your favorite hobby, social networking, digital photography, newsletters, note cards or surfing the web.
We are located in the AGE of Central Texas Building, which used to be the Home for Confederate Widows. It's at 3710 Cedar St., Austin, TX. The AGE Computer Lab is in Room 131. Come on in and ask anyone for directions. Click here for more details and maps. It's a convenient location, easily accessible from I35 and Mopac, and near active bus routes.
Our lab is running Windows 8 with a desktop interface, along with your favorite programs including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Publisher, Corel Paint Shop Pro, Picasa, Blurb , Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop Elements, Adobe Premiere, Pro Show Gold, Pro Show Producer, and Windows Movie Maker. And there's more, as we try to keep up with the latest technologies.
All instructors and coaches are professionals in the field who volunteer their time and expertise to make your computing experience an enjoyment. There's no pressure, just encouragement and assistance if you want. We have twelve stations, so classes are small. We try to allocate one coach for every two students, depending upon the complexity of the class. We believe our fees are quite affordable.
A bit of history: Our original name was SeniorNet Austin. In December 2010, our name was changed to be the Austin Computer Learning Center (ACLC), and you might still see that name in many places on this web site. In July 2012, to coincide with changes at AGE, Austin Groups for the Elderly, our name changed to the AGE Computer Lab (ACL). No matter what, our mission is the same.
Learning is fun at any age. Come join us and you'll be glad you did!
